Housing
Umnotho has 6 exciting housing developments with a total of 3 000 housing units, located in Muldersdrift, with easy access to Lanseria Airport, Cosmo City, North Gate Mall, Cradlestone Mall, and most of Johannesburg and Mogale City.
About Umnotho Village
Umnotho Village was started by low-income families from the informal settlements of Muldersdrift. They were frustrated by the terrible living conditions in the squatter camps. Daily people survive with no running water and no dignified toilets. From 2011, twelve families started saving R150 per month towards buying land for housing. In 2015 there were 650 families who collectively saved R4.5 million, and they bought 28 hectares of land.

Umnotho is a self-help organisation focused on buying land, subdividing the land, and for each family to get a Stand where they can build their own house. Umnotho is for families in need of decent and affordable housing.

Our Desire, Is To Build Our Own Houses!
The system in Gauteng does not allow low-income people to build their own houses, hence we find ourselves in the squatter camps with poor living conditions.
Umnotho brings a model that allows families to build decent houses for themselves.
Current Developments
So far Umnotho allocated 288 Stands and the families are building their own houses.
Current sites are: Umnotho Estate (Plot 130) and Silakhile Estate (Plot 79)

Housing Stokvel
The Skokvel is about us coming together to build our houses. When we do it as individuals, it is way expensive and it takes a long time. Together we have the power to buy in bulk and buy cheaper.

We don't have to owe banks lots of money and risk loosing our homes. We can finance each other, we have the numbers and the unity.

The Stokvels model is used by many people to achieve great things. Some buy groceries together, taxi owners buy each other taxis, and many other examples.

We can build our houses!
